The institute, at 3720 W. 69th St., is a state-of-the-art molecular genetics laboratory with the capability to undertake a wide range of projects from small-scale pilot candidate gene projects to large-scale high throughput genome-wide association studies on tens of thousands of samples.

“If you’ve never been inside the institute, or haven’t visited lately, you will be amazed at the developments occurring in our own backyard,” said Joni Johnson, executive director of South Dakota Biotech.

Avera leadership will share information on current research projects and provide a tour of the institute.

“This kind of behind-the-scenes access combined with the outstanding networking that always occurs at our mixers makes this an event not to miss,” Johnson added.

The mixer is from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and open to anyone in the business community.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new professionals, network and learn,” Johnson said. “In South Dakota, biotech has a big potential reach. So even if your business isn’t directly involved today, you likely can benefit from attending events such as our mixers.”

The event is free for association members. The cost is $25 for non-members. Food will be served, and beverages will be available.
