In BioSpace's second annual Salary Report, life sciences professionals reported an increase in their base salary at an overall growth rate of 4.6%, placing the average salary for the industry at $118,999. This salary is on par with the annual mean wages for fields like chemical engineering ($117,090) and medical and health services managers ($115,160) according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, more professionals (61%) are reporting that they are receiving a bonus with the average bonus amounting to $30,973. Merit-based raises continue
to be the leading cause of the increase.

Specialty Gases Laboratory Technician

A-OX Welding Supply is a premier specialty gas, industrial gas, and equipment supplier in
South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.

Responsible for filling and analyzing compressed gases in a safe and professional manner within the Specialty Gas Division.

  • Prepare compressed gas cylinders for gas filling
  • Fill pure and mixed compressed gases using manual and automatic blend cells
  • Follow the A-OX cylinder filling, analytical and safety procedures
  • Complete daily analysis of food-grade, medical, and specialty gases
  • Perform analyses of gases using gas chromatography with various detectors (TCD, DID, and FID)
  • Submit and file necessary records for production and analyses performed
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry, or equivalent experience
  • Previous use and maintenance of analytical equipment, preferably in gas chromatography
  • Ability to routinely lift 25-75 pounds
  • Ability to perform work during prolonged standing up to 8 hours
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion also required
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment


Microfluidics Engineer - Inanovate

Inanovate Inc., a medical diagnostic startup company, seeks an experienced candidate with a background in engineering to lead the development of microfluidic device production, improvement, and scale-up in support of a novel diagnostic platform. Inanovate is working to bring an innovative breast cancer diagnostic system to patients and provides an opportunity for the ideal candidate to gain experience in the medical device and laboratory robotics field.
Education and Experience: 
  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • 5 years experience in the Engineering field.
  • Experience with microfluidics.
  • Proficency with Solidworks and other engineering software.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics.
Preferred Skills/Background:
  • Proficiency with both electrical and mechanical systems is preferred.
  • Prototype fabrication and use of prototyping tools experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in diagnostic instrumentation or laboratory automation is preferred.
  • Experience working in the FDA regulated industry preferred.
  • Experience with optical and optomechanical systems a plus.
Essential duties include but are not limited to:
  • Leading design, development, and verification activities for Inanovate’s microfluidics cartridge.
  • Leading scale-up strategy and implementation for cartridge manufacturing.
  • Preparing PMA documentation for FDA submissions.
  • May support field upgrades and modifications to laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Direct interaction with laboratory personnel to understand development requirements and needs.


Science Technician III - BION

Job Title:    Science Technician III

Reports To:    Scientific Services Manager

Summary of Duties:
The Science Technician III performs and is responsible for analytical testing and instrumentation for various analytes pertaining to the biofuels industry.  Testing is performed following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLPs) that are derived from internal methods, ASTM, AOAC, or other methodologies.  Team member will promote a positive, adaptive, pleasant attitude with all team members, while being able to diversify their knowledge base. Attention to detail and pride in work results of self and team are a must.

Must be willing to learn, understand, and perform analytical testing of incoming samples following SOPs and cGLPs.
Must be willing to learn, understand and perform testing, QA/QC, and basic maintenance on analytical equipment and instrumentation.

Candidates must have the ability to self-manage and work independently on both routine and non-routine testing SOPs
Position uses basic laboratory equipment as well as chromatography, titration, and combustion instrumentation.

Position will aid and provide guidance to other Science Technicians as necessary to insure smooth flow and operation of the analytical testing laboratories.

This is a hands-on bench chemistry laboratory position with additional data and maintenance responsibilities.
Highly organized and motivated fast learner with the ability to multi-task and adapt to constant change and meet timelines as assigned.
Complete weekly inventory and communicate needs to Purchasing.
Must perform work in a professional, technical, and detailed manner.
Communicate well both written and orally across all levels.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Follow laboratory safety procedures.
Assist in R&D and method development activities as required or assigned.
Proficient in Microsoft office suite.
