OmegaQuant earns NIH award to study early signs of vision loss

Led by Dr. Bill Harris, the research will explore whether fatty-acid patterns in the blood can help predict the future risk of age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Using machine learning and red-blood-cell fatty acid data from long-running cohort studies, the team hopes to identify earlier warning signs beyond traditional risk factors.

It’s another great example of how South Dakota companies like OmegaQuant are advancing important health research, supporting highly skilled scientific careers and bringing federal research investment to our state.
